Tandri-ponin molempiin etujalkoihin ilmaantui omituista paksua rupea. Eläinlääkäri ei osannut sanoa, mistä vaiva johtui. – Yritimme puolen vuoden ajan kaikki mahdolliset konstit, mutta mikään ei auttanut, Tandrin emäntä Pauliina Nieminen kertoo.
Pauliina Niemisen, 28, ja hänen miehensä Risto Sääskilahden, 33, maatilalla Ranualla käy aikamoinen vilske. Pariskunnan pojalla Lukalla, 6, ei varmasti käy aika pitkäksi, sillä kotitilan eläimistöön kuuluu 15 ylämaan lehmää, kolme hevosta ja kolme koiraa. Ammuntaa, hirnumista ja haukkumista siis riittää kotitarpeiksi.
Pauliina on ammatiltaan hevosharrastajaohjaaja, Risto on maanviljelijä ja koneyrittäjä. Pauliinan mukaan mies värkkää enimmäkseen koneiden kanssa. Tilalla on muutama kymmenen hehtaaria peltoa, joka on heinällä lehmiä ja hevosia varten.
Pauliinalla oli kotitilallaan ratsastustalli, mutta hän joutui luopumaan siitä sairastelunsa vuoksi. Maatilan töissäkin riittää varmasti ihan tarpeeksi askartelemista.
– Olen nyt vain kotona pyöritellyt näitä hommia, hän kertoo.
– Minulle tuli iso nippu sairauksia. Sairauskertomukset eivät mahtuneet yhteen mappiin vaan mappeja on jo kaksi.

Kaikkea kokeiltiinPauliina on siis nuoresta iästään huolimatta jo monien sairauksien tuttava, mutta myös eläinpuolella on ollut murheita. Kuusivuotiaalle Tandri-ponille ilmaantui viime syksynä omituista rupea molempien etujalkojen polvitaipeisiin.
Tandri on sukupuoleltaan ruuna, sen nimi on islantia ja tarkoittaa tulta. Mustankirjava heppa itse on islanninhevosen ja welshin risteymä. Pauliina luonnehtii sitä tosi mahtavaksi ja kaikkien lasten unelmahevoseksi, joka on paitsi hyvin kiltti myös hyvin näyttävä näky, sillä sen pitkä harja ulottuu polviin asti.
– Tandrin rupi oli pahimmillaan 10–15 sentin matkalla ja sitä oli kahden sentin kerros. Välillä sieltä vuoti märkääkin. Normaalit pesut eivät auttaneet, joten pakko oli soittaa eläinlääkärille. Kokeilimme alkuun sinkkivoidetta yli kuukauden ajan, mutta se ei auttanut. Yritin toistakin valmistetta, ja kun sekään ei auttanut, kokeilin jodihaudetta. Ei mitään apua. Kokeilimme myös antibioottia suun kautta, ei tulosta.
Itkua pukkasi
Hevonen oli puoli vuotta kokonaan käyttämättä, koska sen jalat ovat olleet niin kipeät, ettei sen kanssa ole pystynyt tekemään yhtään mitään.
Kun Tandrin vaivat ilmaantuivat viime syksynä, heppa oli siihen asti ollut täysin terve. Ruven alkuperä on edelleen arvoitus. Eläinlääkäri pyöritteli päätään ja totesi, ettei ollut koskaan aiemmin nähnyt hevosella yhtä pahaa rupea.
– Yritin rapsutella rupia irti, mutta jalat olivat niin kipeät, ettei se onnistunut, Pauliina kertoo.
– Ei se antanut edes koskea jalkoihin ja yritti potkaista. Oikein teki pahaa katsoa, kun ei mitenkään pystynyt auttamaan sitä, vaikka kaikki mahdolliset keinot kokeiltiin. Ihan rupesi itkua pukkaamaan.
Kun hätä oli suurin, apu oli onneksi lähellä. Pauliinan sähköpostiin tuli tarjous rovaniemeläiseltä luontaistuoteyritys Detrialta, joka tarjosi Relaxant Animal -sarjan tuotteita näytepakkauksena kokeiltavaksi, jos jollakin oli ongelmia hevosten terveyden kanssa.
– Ajattelin, ettei tilanne voi enää huonommaksikaan mennä. Sanoin suoraan, etten usko tämänkään tuotteen auttavan, sillä olin jo heittänyt kirveen kaivoon. Mutta ihme kyllä hoitovoide auttoi!
”Nyt on voittajan olo”
Kun Pauliina siveli sitä rupiin, alkoi jo kolmessa päivässä näkyä selviä tuloksia. Kun nyt hoidon alusta on kulunut vähän yli viikko, melkein kaikki ruvet ovat kadonneet.
Pauliinalla on myös pari käyttöniksiä muille hevosenomistajille.
– Kun laittaa rasvan aamuin illoin, vanha rasva kannattaa aina ensin pyyhkiä pois. Samalla olen rapsutellut rupea, ja nyt Tandri antaa sen jo tehdä, kun jalkoihin ei enää satu. Jos sitten vielä sattuu tulemaan märkää, sen voi pyyhkäistä pois jollakin desinfiointiaineella kuten Betadinella. Muuten riittää kylmään veteen kostutettu rätti.
Pauliina ei voi kuin ihmetellä Relaxant Animal -hoitovoiteen tehoa.
– Saamani tulokset ovat aivan erinomaisia. Olen ollut siihen todella tyytyväinen. En tosiaankaan olisi voinut uskoa, että se toimii noin hyvin ja vielä noin nopeasti. Nyt on voittajan olo.
